About Southern Pilgrim

Southern Pilgrim is about walking with purpose.

Our walking tours are designed to showcase South East Queensland through the eyes of a local — not just as a destination, but as living places. From Brisbane to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, we explore where these cities come from, what they have become, and how their history continues to shape everyday life today.

At Southern Pilgrim, we believe history isn’t something found only in museums or monuments. It’s present in the streets, neighbourhoods, and in the way people experience each city. Each step tells a story — connecting the past with the places we experience now.

Our mission is simple: to help people truly understand the places, not only their history, but also what it feels like to live here, and what makes each place unique.

How Southern Pilgrim began

The idea for Southern Pilgrim didn’t start in Australia.

It started on a bus between Montpellier and Barcelona, during a conversation with a close friend. Somewhere along that journey, we began talking about walking — not just as movement, but as a way of understanding places, people, and history.

That conversation stayed with me.

Not long after, I walked the Camino de Santiago to Santiago de Compostela. Day after day, step after step, I realised something simple but powerful: walking creates space for stories. For reflection. For connection. Cities, like pilgrimages, reveal themselves slowly — if you walk them with purpose.

When I returned to Australia, I saw the city differently.

Southern Pilgrim was born from the desire to share that perspective. Not just the history of Brisbane, but what it feels like to live here today. The habits, the stories, the layers, and the everyday details that make Brisbane the city it is now.

Our walking tours are an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to experience Australia as more than a destination — but as a living place shaped by its past and present.
